Byron Murphy Prepared, Ready For Cards Camp

With training camp already here, life simply isn’t slowing down for Arizona Cardinals rookie cornerback Byron Murphy.

The former Saguaro High School and University of Washington star has been living in the fast lane since the Cards selected him with the first pick of the second round (33rd overall) in late April.

While training camp doesn’t officially start until July 25th, Murphy and the other first-year players reported Wednesday in Glendale to get a jump-start.

“It’s really just staying focused, making sure I’m prepared for whatever comes next,” Murphy said to Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat during a recent in-studio appearance. “Just make sure I’m staying locked in.”

Murphy’s goals and approach to the next four weeks is simple.

“Keep learning,” he said without hesitation. “Keep watching the vets in front of me and obviously, keep learning the playbook. Just making sure I know everything so I’m not thinking too much and I can play faster. Just taking it day-by-day is the biggest thing. It’s going to be a hard camp, it’s going to be a long camp.”

One thing Murphy hasn’t done is peeked ahead at Arizona’s schedule.

“Nope,” he said with a smile to Cesmat. “I haven’t looked. I’m taking it day-by-day. Once [my] time comes, I’m going to be ready.”

The Cards open their four-game pre-season schedule Thursday, August 8th at State Farm Stadium against the Los Angeles Chargers.
