Mesquite QB Ty Thompson Recaps Spring Recruiting Push

Even before Ty Thompson took his first varsity snap as a sophomore last year, he was a name to watch.

And the Mesquite quarterback did not disappoint 2,361 yards at a 70% completion percentage for 21 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He added six rushing scores as well.

Now, with a year of starting varsity experience under his belt, Thompson is bigger – standing now at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds –  and ready to take his next step in his development.

“You can always improve on the field with accuracy and decision-making, but I’m also trying to improve on leadership, obviously and putting my team in the right position to win games,” Thompson said.

And colleges have taken notice.

Thompson currently has offers from NAU, Wisconsin, Iowa State, Arizona, Boston College and ASU.

Wisconsin is one program that jumps out to Thompson because they were his first Power 5 offer.

“It was the Big Ten and it’s Wisconsin showing a lot of love,” Thompson said. “I appreciate them for that, but all the offers right now, I appreciate them.”

Thompson checked all the boxes necessary for the Badgers, both on and off the field.

“They like the way I throw…they said the football part is taken care of, they just wanted to see what kind of kid I was,” Thompson said. “So we talked on the phone for a while. They liked the kid I was, so they gave me an offer.”

This summer, Thompson plans to check out the Badgers on a visit and has already been on-campus at Boston College and Texas A&M.
