The Arizona Diamondbacks’ struggles continued when heading to Houston to play the defending world champion Houston Astros, dropping the series two games to one.

September 14th: D-backs win 4-2
September 15th: Astros win 10-4
September 16th: Astros win 5-4

The last time the Diamondbacks outright won a series was August 22nd against the Angels.

Houston starters

Dallas Keuchel, Charlie Morton and Justin Verlander held the Diamondback bats in check this series, combining for the following line:

19 IP, 11 H, 5 ER, 6 BB, 23 K (2.37 ERA)

The Diamondbacks had better success against the bullpen, notching seven runs, including three late in Sunday’s game, in eight innings.

Godley struggles

Zack Godley failed to get out of the fourth inning in his start, walking six in just 3.2 innings and giving up five runs, four of which were earned.

Since August 28th, arguably his best start of the season against San Francisco, Godley’s last three starts have accumulated:

12.2 IP, 16 H, 13 ER, 10 BB, 12 K

Peralta remains hot

One of the bright spots of the series came from David Peralta, who is continuing his career year. In the series, he went 5/11, with a home run, two runs scored and four runs batted in.

Numbers Game

As it stands at time of posting, the Diamondbacks are 4.5 games out of the National League West lead and four games out of a wildcard spot with the Rockies and Dodgers having not completed their Sunday games yet. They have considerable ground to make up with just 12 games left in the season, with three games each against the Rockies and Dodgers.
