David Peralta, D-backs Win Series Against Phillies

At times it was tough, but the Diamondbacks wrapped up their most recent homestand with a series win against the Phillies.

August 6th: Diamondbacks win 3-2
August 7th: Phillies win 5-2
August 8th: Diamondbacks win 6-0

Freight Train

I can see it now: The Phillie Phanatic wakes up in a cold sweat. The Fanatic’s significant other wakes up and asks, “It’s the dream again?” in whatever language Phanatics speak. The Fanatic solemnly nods his head and says, “We couldn’t outrun The Freight Train.”

I admit I have a vivid imagination, but it wouldn’t be surprising if there aren’t many David Peralta fans in Philadelphia after this series. The D-backs outfielder went 10/16, five runs scored, two home runs, a double, a triple and four RBI. In the Diamondbacks’ Monday night, 14-inning win, Peralta started the night 0/3 but ended 4/7 with two home runs, including the walk-off, and a triple. 

He now has the most four-hit games in one season in franchise history with six.

Peralta entered this homestand hitting .292, he leaves the homestand hitting .306.

Patrick Corbin

Patrick Corbin has continued one of his best years of his career with another dominant start over the Phillies.

7 IP, 4 H, 0 BB, 0 ER, 9 K

One interesting trend that’s come up with the lefty is his ability to keep the ball in the ballpark this year. He hasn’t given up a home run since June 16th. Nine starts without giving up a home run. His home run given up per nine innings is the lowest of his career at .70 home runs per nine innings. By comparison, his previous low was 2013 with .82 and last year’s total was 1.23. His ERA is close to a run lower this year versus 2017.

Taking Advantage of a Friendly Stretch

As we discussed on the Diamonds in the Desert podcast on Monday, the Diamondbacks now are approaching a softer part of their schedule and could try to get a little more separation between them and the rest of the National League West. They are facing the last place team in the NL Central (Reds), AL West (Rangers) and NL West (Padres) on this upcoming road trip. They have a combined 146-200 record.
