Celebrate Jude LaCava

I first met Fox 10 Sports Director Jude LaCava on a football field at UC San Diego in the early 1990’s. The San Diego Chargers were hosting a joint practice with the Phoenix Cardinals. We exchanged information on both teams while  standing a stones throw from La Jolla Cove. I don’t know if Jude would remember the conversation, but I have never forgotten  how personable and secure he was in his own skin that day.  But a few conversations later Jude let me in on his career path. He was going to be moving from radio to Channel 10. He thought I should look at the  opening in Phoenix. I did. I auditioned and got the job on December 10th, 1993. I’m forever grateful to him for bringing the opening to my attention. He didn’t have to do that.

Jude continues to be a leading voice in the market. You just wouldn’t know it on his end. Not his style to say “look at me”.

I was very pleased this week to see a billboard and social media posts celebrating his 25th anniversary at FOX 10. He deserves it. There’s much more to Jude LaCava than what you see on TV every night. His mentoring, charity, and promotion of the Valley sports scene has been crucial to the growth of sports in our market. He’s not afraid to take a stand against any team in town when he doesn’t like what the franchise is selling. We need more of that, especially with sports owners.

I think it’s cool that his employer would make a big deal out of his longevity and commitment in the marketplace.

Keep up the good fight Jude!…
