House of Hoops: PHHacility Nearly Complete

Brick by brick the Powerhouse Hoops Club Basketball family has seen their large plot of vacant land in the southern part of the Valley transform into a 27,000 square foot Mecca aimed at improving much more than jump shots and rebounding.

The PHHacility, which is to officially open later this month, features three courts, locker rooms and workout areas but will also provide upon completion a yoga studio and academic center.

“We try to hold ourselves to a very high standard,” Powerhouse Co-Owner and Program Director Jeff Becker said to Sports360AZ.com. “We’re not just growing a better basketball player we’re growing a better person through the game of basketball.”

The near 18-month project hasn’t come without its challenges but the focus has remained steadfast with a keen eye on the big picture.

“It’s been a combination of frustration and reward,” General Contractor and Powerhouse Co-Owner William Dippel said with a smile to Sports360AZ.com. “You hang in there. You keep dealing with issues…you work through them and you wind up with something like this.”

The multi-million dollar complex, located just south of the I-10 and 46th Street, will be the official home of Powerhouse Hoops AAU and Academy Training. With easy access to a number of major freeways it will also be the hub for various tournaments and exhibitions, as well as a place for local youth to escape the everyday pressures they face in basketball and, more specifically, in life.

“There is so much more all-compassing [in basketball],” Becker explained. “From the physical side, the mental side, the spiritual side.”

Without a doubt, The PHHacility provides a little bit of everything.

That’s one game plan we can all agree on.
