Chaparral Goes to Oklahoma for Next Head Coach

The Chaparral Firebirds will have four head coaches since three-time state chamionship winning coach Charlie Ragle joined the coaching staff University of Arizona (and now Cal) .

Thomas Lewis, who was the head coach for two years, resigned this offseason to fulfill work obligations off the field. Previously, Conrad Hamilton joined Arizona State’s staff after leading the Firebirds for two seasons himself (Hamilton rejoined the staff as the team’s defensive coordinator this past season). Prior to that, Dave Huffine, was head coach for two seasons but pursued administrative opportunities and eventually became Coronado’s athletic director.

The Firebirds will hand the reigns over to Brent Barnes,

Barnes comes from the Oklahoma high school circuit, coaching at Norman North where he went 24-10 over the last three seasons. He was the schools offensive coordinator for five seasons before being named the head coach. Barnes’ father is an assistant coach at Copper Canyon High School. At Chaparral, Barnes inherits one of the top quarterback prospects in the nation in Jack Miller. The 2020 prospect already has significant interest from across the country and is considered in some circles as the top player at that class. Jack Miller 2
