Chaparral Football Coach Thomas Lewis Resigns

In an offseason where multiple elite programs like Hamilton, Mountain Pointe, Brophy and Cactus were looking to replace their head coaches, Chaparral will be following suit as well.

Thomas Lewis confirmed with Sports360AZ he has resigned, effective immediately. azcentral’s Richard Obert initially reported the resignation.

Lewis spent two seasons as the Firebirds’ head coach and replaced Conrad Hamilton when Hamilton went to work for ASU football. Hamilton is back on the Firebirds staff as the team’s defensive coordinator.

Lewis said the resignation was due to increased responsibility and travel with his job outside of his duties as the head coach.

The Firebirds return a young but now experienced roster being led by quarterback Jack Miller, who is 247Sports’ top 2020 quarterback, and wide receiver/kicker Tommy Christakos as well as multiple dynamic running backs. Overall, the Firebirds return 11 starters on offense and nine starters on defense.
