Diamondbacks Extend Win Streak to 10, Sweep Rockies

The Arizona Diamondbacks continue their Sedona red hot streak, sweeping the Rockies and winning ten straight games.

Friday: Diamondbacks won 9-5
Saturday: Diamondbacks won 6-2
Sunday: Diamondbacks won 5-1

Here are a few takeaways from the series:

Jumping On ‘Em Early

The Diamondbacks had the third longest innings streak with a lead at 52 innings. The only teams to have longer streaks since 1920 were the 1983 Baltimore Orioles and the 1963 St. Louis Cardinals according to STATS LLC.

Getting Shifty

Torey Lovullo thinks out everything. In the case of shifts, he got a little creative when D.J. LeMahieu was up to bat. LeMahieu has been racking up the opposite field hits this year, and the Diamondbacks wanted to counteract that. The Rockies second baseman went 3/11 (.272) against the Diamondbacks in the series.

Strong Starters

Patrick Corbin continues his impressive start streak, getting his 13th win of the season and throwing 5.1 innings. Since August 1st, Corbin has dropped his ERA from 4.77 to 3.83. Taijuan Walker also had a scoreless start in five innings and his ERA is now down to 3.42. Zack Godley wrapped the series with an efficient six innings of one-run ball and striking out seven.

Big Time Bats

J.D. Martinez has made his presence felt since coming on with the Diamondbacks in the power department, but he is also hitting for average now too. The D-backs outfielder is hitting 7/22 in the last week and had a huge Saturday with a home run and four RBIs. Shortstop Ketel Marte is also seeing the ball well, hitting 3/10 with a home run and three runs scored.

The Diamondbacks now sit at 79-58 and have a 6.5 game lead over the Rockies in the Wildcard standings. The Snakes head to Los Angeles to play the Dodgers, who the Diamondbacks swept earlier this week.
