Two Icons of Arizona H.S. Football Pass Away


Jesse Parker and Vern Friedli, though those in Tucson would prefer the names reversed. Regardless, two of the legends of high school football in Arizona, passed away over the last couple of days. They are two who pushed the sport forward in our State for many years.


Friedli coached at Amphi and had a state record 331 career victories while at Morenci, Casa Grande, San Manuel and Amphi. His wins record would be broken last seaosn by Marcos De Niza’ Paul Moro.

Parker finished his coaching career with 309 victories.He led Mountain View to four state championships.He also was the head coach at Gilbert high school for 10 seasons.
