Hoop Talk- Suns Defense is Deplorable, Markus Howard, Year of the Guard in High School

I don’t need College Football bowl games as much as I need hoops. Good hoops. Not the Suns allowing San Antonio to shoot 54% from the floor and lose by 21(Spurs didn’t even play Kawhi Leonard). I will get my college football fix on Saturday when the CFP Final Four is played. I don’t need the Foster Farms Bowl in front of family and friends to get my share of football.

I’ve been in gyms and in my living room taking in quite a bit of ball this week. Stopped in to watch Shadow Mountain high the other night at the McClintock Shootout.
Jaelen House, the son of Eddie House, gets it done. Just a sophomore, he’s certainly one to watch. His teammate, Marcus Shaver just lets the game come to him. UCSB is getting a good one.

I would love to see Shadow play Apollo or Corona Del Sol. Won’t happen. Too bad for basketball fans in our State. It’s the year of the guards in high school hoops. Alex Barcello(Corona Del Sol), Holland Woods(Apollo)636185581374043427-r8r7263

Dre Marin(Apollo), Shaver(Shadow Mtn), and House(Shadow Mtn) just to name a few. The best “big” I’ve seen in person is Gabe McGlothlan at Basha. Smart player, great footwork. It seems to be a wide open year for the State titles…

Just so we are clear, Barcello would be playing if he were at UofA now. He’s outgrown high school ball. It happens to those who are ready for the next level ahead of most everyone else…

I watched Oregon and UCLA on Wednesday night, great game! I have to wonder how former Corona Del Sol star Casey Benson is dealing with a lesser role than what he’s had for the Ducks the first two seasons. He saw 13 mins. of court time against the Bruins and Oregon is loaded at guard for years to come…

Have you seen the numbers that former Perry guard Markus Howard is putting up at Marquette? I watched him Wednesday night against Georgetown and the kid is dealing. He scored 23 in just 21 mins. on 7-10 shooting. He’s hit 50-percent of his 3’s this season and is in the starting lineup for a team that is 10-3. Another good one who got away…

Let’s look at the defensive numbers of the Suns, or better yet, let’s not. The Suns are next to last in the League, allowing 114 points per game.  Teams are shooting almost 47 percent per game against them. Those are numbers that would get someone on the coaching staff fired. But I am fine with this mess as long as the minutes for Bender, Chriss, Booker continue to rise. They have played 30 games, it obvious that some of the vets have to be jettisoned to free up more playing time for the youth movement. I can actually tolerate watching them play when the kiddie corp is out on the floor…
