Female GM for DBacks? Greg Williams Strikes Cards QB Again…

Arizona Sports News online

imgresIn 2010 Greg Williams, defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints, had a bounty out on Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner in the NFC playoffs. Williams cash incentive for players to “knockout” opposing quarterbacks that season would later become a major scandal for the NFL, with his bounty payments reaching up to $50K. Embarrassing to think that grown men getting paid handsomely would have to have more reason to injure another human being. I bring up “bounty gate” because Greg Williams is now the defensive coordinator of the LA Rams. The same Rams team that took out Carson Palmer on Sunday
Funny how one guy who’s not wearing a jersey on Sundays has set back the Cardinals organization twice in six years. Warner never played another game in the NFL after the Bobby McCray hit.

Warner would later say that the hit by McCray was legal, but that he was “saddened” by the bounty system Williams had installed. What kind of penalty/suspension would McCray receive in todays NFL?…

Palmer was placed in the NFL concussion protocol program after Sundays injury in the Rams game. That’s all well and good, but the fact that he wasn’t ruled out of the 49ers matchup until three days later was just another reason to question just how serious the League takes brain trauma. In Major League Baseball, a player automatically is out 7-days once they are put into protocol. There is no such thing as a “minor concussion”…

Would the Diamondbacks hire a women to be the next General Manager of the team? I wouldn’t rule it out. Derrick Hall said “he or she” when referring to the teams next GM. I asked him about Kim Ng as a candidate.imgres-1 ” I know Kim, she’s great…she’s terrific.”  Hall and Ng go back to their days with the Dodgers organization. She is currently the highest ranking female in Major League Baseball, holding the position of Sr. VP of Baseball Operations. She has no General Managers experience, but that wouldn’t matter under this regime. Let’s be honest here, both Kendrick and Hall have shown that they ARE GOING TO BE involved in on-the-field decisions. That’s why baseball men like Kevin Towers, Jerry DiPoto(yes, he was a GM here too), and Tony La Russa have come and (eventually La Russa) gone. I don’t look at gender when it comes to front office positions. A GM of any sports franchise in this day and age has to be able to negotiate, sign, and retain talent. They must rely on the baseball operations people around them. When the Diamondbacks were first-born, Jerry Colangelo was very smart to surround a rookie GM, Joe Garagiola Jr., with GREAT baseball minds. Roland Hemond, Sandy Johnson, Tommy Jones, Mike Rizzo(GM now of the Washington Nationals), and Donnie Mitchell. Sure, Colangelo opened up the checkbook, but those men counseled Joe Jr. to make the right moves that produced the World Series trophy. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ng was the next GM. The team would get roasted for the hire, but then again ANY hire they make right now for the GM job is going to met with skepticism…

toddgrahamstillWill Todd Graham’s agent sniff around on the opening at LSU and the potential vacancy at Texas? Never rule an agent out. Never…

I have to wonder if we’ve seen the last of Anu Solomon as the starting quarterback at Arizona. Rich Rod should ride the arm and legs of 17-year oldKhalil Tate Khalil Tate moving forward. Burning Tate’s red shirt last week at UCLA should be the tell-tale sign that the Cats are ready to move on from Solomon. One other reason why it  makes sense to stick with Tate this week against Utah. Rodriguez has owned this series with the Utes, winning all four match ups since coming to Tucson. Coaches see things most of us don’t…

Heading out for Friday Night Lights to Perry High School. The Pumas are 6-0. They’ve never been 7-0. They’ve never beaten Chandler. To ease the expected over-flow crowd the school is selling tickets to the game on-line. Never heard that one before around a high school football game. By the way we will carry the Perry student produced broadcast Friday night at 6:50. Here’s the link  https://www.sports360az.com/watch-chandler-schools/
