D-Backs on Deck – Jake Barrett

Jake BarrettPOSITION:

RHP

TEAM:

Arizona Diamondbacks (MLB)

MLB Debut:

4/4/16

AGE:

24

Mike Bell, D-Backs Director of Player Development:

“For Jake it’s fastball command. It’s fastball command down in the zone and when he has that at 95-97 with a quality slider and a good change, there is no reason why he cant pitch important innings for us in the big leagues. He’s pitched in some big games and we like to have our guys throw in those situations and he’s answered the bell.”

2016 STATS:

6 games through 4/21, 7 IP, 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 4 Ks, 1 BB

2015 STATS:

47 Games with Mobile and Reno, 53 IP, 4-3, 15 Saves, 4.58 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 51 Ks, 23 BB

Notes:

(Updated 4/29) Barrett was able to make his major league debut to start the season and though he was sent down once already for a brief amount of time, it has been so far so good for the local product at the big league level. Barrett has been the closer everywhere he has gone going back to his time at Arizona State. He has the ability to be just that for the Diamondbacks down the line so it will be a big season in 2016 getting his major league routine down.
