ASU Battling KU for Thon Maker

Arizona Sports News online

Arizona State still  sits strongly in the lead for 7″0 standout Thon Maker out of Athlete Institue Basketball Academy in Toronto, Ontario. The Sun Devils are going to have to fight for this commitment right down to end. Maker will visit Kansas this coming weekend(March 5th) when the Jayhawks host Iowa State. Kansas coach Bill Self has built a strong bridge in the recruitment of Maker.

Arizona State appears to have the inside track because of the relationship between Ed Smith, the guardian for Maker,  and Sun Devil assistant coach Brian Merritt. Merritt is also close to John Lucas, who has been working as a private instructor for Maker.

Thon Maker is considered one of the top five high school players in the country. He has listed Arizona State, Indiana, Kentucky, and Kansas as schools he’s considering.  One source described the recruitment with Arizona State as “very fluid”.
