Some free-flowing Three Dots on Steve Nash retiring from the NBA today…

Nash, like Charles Barkley, never won a NBA title for Phoenix, but it doesn’t diminish what he did for the franchise and the city. Don’t waste my time suggesting that Nash wasn’t that good because he didn’t bring the Suns a ring…

All Suns fans remember Nash being hip-checked into the boards by Robert Horry during the 2007 images-8playoff series against San Antonio. That single play ended up being the beginning of the end for the Suns Championship hopes. They haven’t come close to sniffing a title since…

His love of soccer was a connection between us. My kids all played the sport and Nash would have his annual charity soccer game in New York City every summer. He LOVED that event. I tried a couple of times to convince TV News Directors to go to do a story on him at that event Of course they didn’t see, understand, get, the point of going back there…

images-10The Suns haven’t had a “face of the franchise” since Nash left. Eric Bledsoe isn’t that guy, don’t try to sell that to me…

We had to learn what spondylolisthesis meant…

Nash made almost $150 million during his NBA career…

Once I was doing a show with Nash at Montis’ in Tempe3077_1057595196021_1709494_n when Jeremy Roenick walked in to join me. Nash was new to Phoenix, but was a big hockey fan. During a commercial break Nash asked if it would be ok if he got an autograph from the Coyotes star player. I had to laugh. Humble…

TV news directors and radio program directors would hint, suggest, demand that I use Nash in stories or in interview segments. If Steve Nash came in studio the hallway would be filled with people who I would never see again until another big name stopped by. Co-workers would bring in their kids, basketballs jerseys, and pictures for him to sign, and he always would.images-9
ALL media in Phoenix during his two stints in a Suns jersey probably have a Nash story about how he bailed them out on an interview, sound bite, or live shot…

I found Nash to be interested in talking about things other than basketball most of the time. His love of soccer, family, acting skills, or working with kids. Basketball wasn’t his passion when the game wasn’t being played…

The Number 13 Suns jersey should never be worn again. It should be put into the Ring of Honor ASAP…
