Stunned Devils, Barcello meets with UofA, Dodd:Bagley best ever in AZ high school

Three Dots from Las Vegas…

i-1

Total collapse. No other way to put the Arizona State first round loss here to USC. A 21-4 run by the regular season last place team is just flat embarrassing. With nine minuets to go, the Sun Devils led by 14, with the ball. Head coach Herb Sendek said after the game that “we never relaxed, that’s not in our DNA”

The numbers don’t lie, can’t agree with him.
With two weeks to go in the regular season,  many around the program felt that Sendek would be brought back for next season. The reasons were valid. He had a transition year, replaced his point guard, had a couple of solid recruiting pieces in the pipeline.
But the overall body of work shows a nine-year record of 158-136. Being eliminated in the first round by a bad basketball team(and I am being kind) will naturally bring hard questions that need to be answered by Athletic Director Ray Anderson. My in-box is full of fans that aren’t happy with the program. I completely understand their frustration…

The Pac-12 Tourney is one of the best when it comes to sporting events. Done Super Bowls, NBA Finals, Final Fours, World Series. None of them took place in Las Vegas. None of them were housed at the MGM Grand.
The energy of the college fans is unique in the sports world, which has become more and more corporate and less and less about the everyday man when it comes to attending an event.
Mayweather vs Pacquiao here at the MGM in May will have much more energy than this, but that’s apples and oranges…

Early estimates, 85% of the fans on the strip and in the hotel are wearing University of Arizona gear. It’s like a Arizona Wildcat convention up here…

Sean Miller met with Corona Del Sol guard Alex Barcello last Saturday before and after the Wildcats beat Stanford in Tucson.

Barcello_Injury
Edward Barcello, Alex’s father, told me by phone that “Arizona really wants Alex to commit, but we are very early in the process and want to see all of the opportunities that present themselves”. Barcello is the best point guard prospect I’ve seen in the state since Mike Bibby. He’s only a sophomore, no reason to give into colleges trying to get him to commit. He will be able to go anywhere in the country…

Arizona State radio analyst Kyle Dodd is plugged into the high school hoop scene. The former Sun Devil guard works out players for high school, college and pro teams. On Wednesdays show here in Vegas
DoddMarvin_Bagley_Corona_Basketball told me that Corona Del Sol freshman Marvin Bagley will go down as “the best player in the history of Arizona high school basketball”…
