Bryce Perkins: No better place than to stay home and be a home town hero

A few big chips have begun to fall in Arizona’s 2015 football class and the first big one to fall in favor of the Arizona State Sun Devils, was Three-star quarterback Bryce Perkins.

The 6’3, 210-pounder from Chandler High School announced his commitment to the Sun Devils after a visit a couple weeks back giving Deputy Head Coach Mike Norvell a great local offensive weapon to look forward to in 2015.

“I was really excited,” Perkins stated. “My parents were really excited and what really solid it for me was when I went to their practice and afterwards the took me through the dorms and on a visit. I sat down and talked to Coach Norvell and he seemed really excited for me to get over there and there’s no better place than to stay home and be a home town hero.”

Going into the 2013 high school season, Perkins had been pursued hard by schools at the next level but more so as an athlete and not as much as a quarterback. That tone started to change over the course of last year as Perkins lit up the Arizona competition leading the way for one of the most successful seasons for the Wolves in recent memory.

“A lot of people doubt that I can play quarterback at the next level,” Perkins mentioned. “So every week I am training on my skills, working on my mechanics, working on my footwork so hopefully I can prove everybody wrong and make everybody fear the fork.”

Perkins is turning heads in April despite the fact football season isn’t going on. He is also a star track athlete for Chandler running the 110m hurdles, which he considers his best event, and is part of the Wolves’ 4x100m boys relay team.

“Yea it’s to stay in shape and to get the extra work in,” Perkins explained. “It never hurts and I’ve been running track since I was little so it’s in my blood.”

While he has his sights set currently on winning a state title in an event or two on the track, Perkins is still looking to do the same on the football. Despite the fact the Wolves lose a great senior class, he is very confident that his team will be back among the state’s best in the fall of 2014.

“Were going to be really good,” Perkins stated. “Last year the juniors we had that backed up the seniors were just as good and just as fast. So we shouldn’t miss a beat. I’m really excited for the season.”
