What to make out of Team USA hockey disaster

Finland destroys Team USA 5-0 in the Bronze medal hockey game.

In the span of 24-hours USA Hockey went from gaining terrific momentum in mainstream American to a thud. To not even medal in the Olympics is a big blow to the sport. You can’t spin it any other way.

When was the last time that our country was so thoroughly dominated and destroyed on a world stage in one of the BIG 4 sports in our culture?

For the next four years we are going to hear conversation about whether NHL players should play or not in the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
In a radio interview this week Wayne Gretzky stood up for having NHL players compete “If I had a vote, I would vote to go because I love the Olympic Games and I think there’s no bigger honor, there’s no bigger thrill than representing your country”.
The USA sent the pros to Sochi and they come home without ANY medal.

Was Saturdays complete embarrassment a reflection on our society? If we aren’t playing for a title then “who cares”. That certainly seemed to be the case among fans on social media following yesterdays loss to the Canadians to watching the Fins celebrate at every turn.
