High School Football Sections Projections: Division I, Section 2

The Teams:

–Cesar Chavez Champions: Projected record: 6-4

–Maryvale Panthers: Projected record: 1-9

–Millennium Tigers: Projected record: 4-6

–North Mustangs: Projected record: 3-7

–Valley Vista Monsoon: Projected record: 7-3

–Westview Knights: Projected record 7-3

The Favorite:

Westview: This sections is jam packed at the top between the Knights and also Valley Vista and Cesar Chavez. I give the nod to Westview because of what they bring on the defensive side of the football. The tandem on the defensive line of Cody Carrel and Diante Flowers is one of the best in the state. Not to mention Kordell Provchy, D.J. Townsend and Desmond Washington in the secondary. Provchy is also back as the team’s starting quarterback. This is a team that can put up points coming off of a season with nine wins, but defense will be the identity of this team.

The Darkhorse:

Valley Vista: They will not be as much as a surprise as they were last year when they bursted onto the scenes and won eight games. But they are still a younger program that is less established than Chavez and Westview so they still could have the most to prove. They are led by an explosive player on both sides of the ball in Terry Juniel who plays WR/DB and expects to play at the next level. Junior Elmondo McCoy will be a playmaker for them as well and overall the Monsoon could have the best offensive line top to bottom in the section blocking for those playmakers.
