ASU and UofA counting down start of football season

Arizona Sports News online

ASU and UofA football fans don’t have a game in 100 days but the rest of the college football fans do. North Carolina opens the 2013 season of games at South Carolina at 3pm on August 29th to get the season off and running. Here are some of the story lines that I am already looking forward to checking out.

-Will ASU have a player emerge from their death march four week schedule who will become a national figure?

Look, if the Sun Devils can navigate through(in order) Wisconsin, at Stanford, USC, and Notre Dame(at Dallas) with three or four wins, then someone like Taylor Kelly, Marion Grice, or DJ Foster could be in the discussion for Heisman trophy consideration. Don’t believe me? Give me another school who will have that many high profile games so early in the season. There isn’t one.

-Will UofA running back Ka’Deem Carey pick up where he left off at the end of last season?

First of all, does Carey have his head on straight? From all accounts he has been walking the straight and narrow line off the field. He had a rough few months in Tucson, but give Rich Rodriguez credit, he got to the heart of the matter with his star player. 23 rushing touchdowns and over 1900 yards on the ground shouldn’t be kicked to the curb. If Carey has his act together then he should be a Heisman guy too.

-Will UofA be ranked in the top 25 by the Sept. 28th game at Washington?

They should. Look, no offense to NAU, UNLV or UTSA, but those are games that should be victories if your Rich Rod. Anything less than a 3-0 start would be disappointment for UofA fans.
