Desert Edge shocks Shadow Mountain to move onto quarterfinals

It was one of the shocking results of the second round of the Division II state tournament as the 12th seeded Desert Edge Scorpions knocked off the 5th seeded Shadow Mountain Matadors Saturday night 71-59.

Desert Edge came out fast in the game taking a 37-24 lead into halftime. They were lead by their back court of senior Chazz Wade and junior Elijah Marks. Shadow Mountain is known for their freshman but Desert Edge got solid play from one of their freshman, Kevin Mack.

The Matadors did bring the game withing striking distance lead by senior Keegan Hansen and freshman Carlos Johnson, but it was too little to late. The Matadors season comes to an end earlier than they expected.

Desert Edge moves on to face Paradise Valley on Wednesday at 2:30 from Jobing.com Arena.
