Tears Flowed, Suns Hire, GCU v ASU

Three down, one to go.

This weekend we were in Chicago for our youngest daughters college graduation. I didn’t make it past the opening moments before the tears started. The lump in the throat wouldn’t leave until the ceremony was almost over. All good stuff! The late Jim Valvano had the memorable line, “if you laugh, think, and cry everyday…everyday…it’s a full day.” My day was full before noon. This daughter had two ACL tears in four years on the soccer field. To say that she was a fighter, would be an understatement. She graduated with a degree in psychology and minor in science. She wants to study neuropsychology. Concussions and brain trauma have caught her attention. I am so proud of her!  Chase it Brenna!!!

Good weekend for the hometown 9. Taking two of three from the Astros(including a Verlander start) is pretty darn impressive. However, I must confess, I am tired of seeing the Dodgers in the other dugout. Can’t believe that the two teams are playing again this week…

Bryce Harper is going to be a free agent at the end of this season. Harper grew up in Las Vegas. Harper is going to be here in Phoenix this coming weekend. Anyone planning on on making a pitch to Harper to bring his talents to the desert? Why not?…

Igor Kokoskov may be a fine hire as the next head coach of the Phoenix Suns, but the facts are, no one knows. I think given the circumstances of the organization, this was about as good as Suns fans could hope for. No “name” coach was going to touch this job. Look at the list of those who applied and it’s plain as day to see that this job is designed for a first time NBA head coach.  For the sake of long suffering Suns fans, I hope Igor Kokoskov is the right guy. The constant dysfunction between the front office and the product on the floor is embarrassing for everyone involved. I think it’s very fair to wonder why the owner likes to hire head coaches who aren’t big names with big resumes. Should Phoenix be a training center for head coaches? Aren’t we better than that? Using Kokoskovs European head coaching experience as a way of saying he’s done it, isn’t quite right. Different game…

We mentioned earlier this year in this space that GCU and ASU Presidents Brian Mueller and Michael Crow were having a thawing out of their strained relationship. To take the healing to the next level, how about scheduling a few sporting events between the two schools? UA is playing GCU in baseball, softball, and soccer. Hurley v Majerle needs to happen!…

Been watching Vegas in the NHL Playoffs. There’s hope for the Coyotes in 2019…

Nice save by Sean Miller to get Brandon Williams back in the fold…
