Alabama transfer Blake Barnett eligible for Sun Devils week one

Tuesday afternoon, incoming Alabama transfer quarterback, Blake Barnett, found out he will not have to sit out the first four games of the 2017 season before he is eligible to play for ASU.

Sun Devil Source reported that Barnett was granted a Legislative Relief Waiver by the NCAA that allows the quarterback immediate eligibility to play in ASU’s home opener on Aug. 31 against New Mexico State.

After losing Alabama’s starting job to freshman Jalen Hurts, Barnett announced his intent to transfer in September. The four-star quarterback played in three games for the Crimson Tide in 2016, with 219 yards passing and two touchdowns.

The news of the waiver comes one day after Bryce Perkins, who suffered a neck injury in August, announced that he was cleared to play.

The Sun Devils have a crowded staff at quarterback with Manny Wilkins, Dillon Sterling-Cole, Brady White and Perkins all returning. Additionally, Basha quarterback Ryan Kelley is expected to sign with ASU on Wednesday.
