Lebron + Suns = “The Decision” Part 2

Arizona Sports News online

This much I know about the Lebron James sweepstakes, NO ONE knows what he’s going to do. Even the most plugged in NBA Insider hasn’t been able to keep up on the story this week. Late Thursday afternoon ESPNs Chris Broussard reported that a day earlier the Suns were one of three teams that met with James agent in Cleveland. In this day and age of social media, keeping a story like that quiet for 24 hours was pretty stealth. I am also certain that we aren’t going to see another “The Decision” show out of the James camp. Too bad, because I’ve never seen the sporting community quite so confused on what to make out of one players announcement…
Suns coach Jeff Hornacek reportedly wasn’t at the meeting in Cleveland which brought some questions from Suns fans to me on Thursday night. I don’t see the need for Hornacek to be at any pitch for players, just like I think it’s silly to have players fly in to tell a player why they would like to have him or her on the team.
Does Lebron James agent need to have Hornacek stand at the white board and diagram ways that the team would plan to showcase Lebrons talents?(Of course not) I do think it’s fair to wonder how any coach would handle a player like James. Mike Brown and Eric Spoelstra have been given that challenge, I would like to think that Hornacek, even with just one year of head coaching experience under his belt, would be just fine managing James minuets, ego, and body…
Unlike most of you, I would be open to the idea of trading Goran Dragic. Look, if Lebron were to come here, the Suns would have to move some players off the roster. Managing the salary cap can make for some tough, tough calls. Unpopular calls. Yes, Dragic is a terrific player, but just like the time the Suns had to trade Hornacek to get Charles Barkley, you have to be open minded to moving ANYBODY in order to get a mega-star in the fold for several years…
I do think it’s interesting that the Lakers haven’t hired a head coach yet. Is that because they want that chip to use in the James sweepstakes? Is there someone out there beyond the obvious name like Byron Scott? The Lakers are bordering on desperate given the success of the Clippers, the twilight of Kobe Bryants career, and the criticism directed at the Buss ownership…
